Black Communities Are Under Attack. We’re Fighting Back.

From voting rights to healthcare and environmental justice, Black Voters Matter is expanding our We Fight Back campaign to defend and reimagine democracy.

Black Voters Matter (BVM) is relaunching and expanding our We Fight Back campaign — not just to defend Black voters at the ballot box, but to protect and uplift Black communities everywhere.

Right now, our people are under attack. From voting rights rollbacks to cuts in healthcare, to environmental racism and economic instability, Black communities are being forced to carry the weight of a system designed to silence us. But we are not powerless. Together, we are fighting back — and we’re building something bigger.

Launched in 2024, We Fight Back started as a push to educate and empower voters. Today, it’s evolving into a bold strategy for survival, resistance, and transformation. This is about meeting the crisis head-on while reimagining a democracy rooted in justice, equity, and care.

What We’re Building

Under We Fight Back: Community, Power, Resistance, BVM is growing key initiatives that address the real challenges facing our people:

• Sick & Tired: Fighting for healthcare access and against devastating Medicaid cuts.

• The Block is Hot: Organizing against environmental racism and for clean, safe communities.

• Warrant Clinic: Helping folks resolve warrants and reduce legal barriers.

• Take the Field: Mobilizing high school and college students to step into leadership and civic engagement.

As Cliff Albright, our co-founder and executive director, puts it:

“Our power is rooted in the people, and we’re using all of our tools to connect and mobilize communities across the country. This isn’t just about resistance, it’s about building lasting power to protect our collective future.”

And co-founder LaTosha Brown reminds us:

“This is when we double down, not just to resist, but to boldly reimagine what this country could be. Real change comes from ordinary people refusing to be silenced.”

What’s Next

Later this month, we’ll be back on the road with the Blackest Bus in America, meeting communities face-to-face, building mutual aid networks, and making the connection between civic power and the resources our people need.

We’ve always said: engaging voters is one way we build power, but not the only way. Our fight also lives in grassroots organizing, direct action, litigation, community care, and investment in Black-led solutions.

This moment is urgent — but it’s also full of possibility. The attacks on our communities are real, but so is our power. We fight back, and we will keep fighting back, together.
